Timberline continues to offer the most challenging and fun terrain in the MidAtlantic, but the resort is "circling the drain." The rental fleet hasn't been updated in over a decade (closer to 2) and the place is badly run down. Cost cutting (?) means less snow making. A majority of the trails are open to natural snow and should not really be open...extremely thin cover, lots of rocks and bare spots. There are few skiers and no lift lines. Management doesn't seem to grasp that you need qualotu open terrain to attract skiers. It feels like they have quit trying. They open later every year and close early every year. The info on their website is often highly inaccurate. Bring your own food and gear...you'll still have fun.

Timberline's terrain makes up for all the other shortcomings. This is where skiers and riders come to play on snow. It's not your cozy chalet destination to sit around in. I've been skiing here for 6 years and still get my heart racing on challenging runs, the only place in the MidAtlantic that still does it for me. Some new glades this year, if nature will deliver a deeper base. A definite Play Outside destination.

Of the 10+ resorts we've skied, there's no other mountain in the MidAtlantic that packs as much punch. When the whole mountain is open, it's ON for riders/skiers who want variety and challenge. New glades have been opened; the steeps are short, but actually steep and challenging. T'line slopes feel like the real deal. Great lodging options abound, from modest to stunning. A new store near the entrance carrier gourmet fair, and adult libations. While Timberline's facilities leave a lot to be desired, if you're a skier/rider don't go anywhere else. If you're a free heeler, this is a mandatory destination. The telemark vibe at T'line is unsurpassed (except at White Grass, next door, where you gotta earn your turns).

Had a "Ski the Valley" lift ticket. Enjoyed the long run, but skiing was cut short due to rain. Staff was very friendly and made the experience pleasant!!!

The mountain and trails at Timberline offer the most variety and challenge in the Mid-Atlantic. If you like to ski, this is the place to be. If you like hanging out in the Lodge, shopping, and eating...go down the road. The facilities are "rustic" and food is...well, edible. The facility is over crowded, the bathrooms are kinda scary, and the lifts are slow. BUT we have our season passes here because the terrain ROCKS. Timberline has terrific snowmaking capacity and the microclimate in Canaan Valley invites 150"+ snow every year. This is a telemarkers mecca, as well. Parking is kinda disorganized, but you can easily walk to your car to swap gear or grab a bag lunch. Season passes are a great deal and there are many wonderful homes rentals on the slopes and nearby (tho not a lot of hotel rooms). Bring all your gear and plan to play OUTSIDE all day!

I organized a large group last January ( 30 people). Timberline had a great group rate and allowed for a variety of skiing/boarding packages (not everyone skied both days, not everyone rented, etc.) The skiing was beautiful. They have areas where you can ski through the trees on narrow trails - a little scary, but very cool. They have LONG runs at a variety of levels, so you don't spend your whole day in lines or on lifts. The only drawback was the lodge was very small. It was difficult to find seating for our group and the walkways in the lodge area were tight- especially when towing children in ski boots.

The hill is fine, some fun skiing, but the lifts are very slow. If that were not bad enough, they seem to break down once or twice every hour.

Just went skiing on Sunday, 19 Jan. The 2 mile run with covered chair lift is a treat! Lift lines were low, slopes were wonderful. No one snow boarded over my ski tips (smile), Polite folks, nice munchies, and accessable parking lot. Esp like the half price lift ticket on weekends. For me, worth the 7 hour drive, IF I have a friend with a 4wheel drive!!!
