Low quality equipment, rude management
Posted on 01/24/2011 by: Jason M. Summarily, Pelican rents low quality, occasionally downright unsafe equipment, and one of their managers is incredibly disrespectful.
I had been renting from Pelican for the last few years because I found their prices to be reasonable compared to other shops in the area. However, this year, I was rented a pair of ski boots which failed catastrophically. During a routine adjustment of the binding straps on each boot, they snapped in half.
When I requested that I be refunded the cost of the boot rental, I ended up in a nearly 20 minute discussion with the manager on duty, Chris. He was dismissive, rude, and inconsiderate. At one point, he almost slipped, saying that the issue was "not imp[ortant enough]...not one of those things we deal with." Actually, Chris and Pelican, these are ex-actly the issues that you deal with.
Ultimately, the boot rental was refunded, but I was treated very rudely and disrespectfully. They showed no concern for their customer.
