About Chicago Ridge Snowcat Tours

We will take you as high as 12,600 feet in elevation atop the Continental Divide. The slopes vary from 3000 to 10,000 feet in length with vertical drops up to 1400 feet per run. Check in is at the Ski Cooper day lodge. Please bring appropriate gear for snow and changing weather conditions. This is a great opportunity to rent powder fat skies from our rental shop.

Guide Certifications & Experience

Most guides are EMT's, some with paramedic, RN, or physician level (minimum OEC). All guides attend an annual avalanche level-I course, with the snow safety staff at levels II and III. All guides participate in continous training on avalanche mitigation and rescue, as well as medical topics. This season we feature a fully certified avalanche rescue dog on staff.

Equipment Used

Oldest snowcat skiing service in Colorado-22 years of operation on 4 square miles of above and below treeline terrain. We operate one the finest tourcats in the industry: a Bombardier MP. We have a new cat this season! Our tourcat is heated, with a CD player and lots of storage. VERY CUSHY!

Ski Cooper owns and operates Chicago Ridge Backcountry Tours. Areas closeby are: Vail, Beaver Creek, and all the Summity Co. ski areas: Keystone, A-Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mt.

Booking Policy

We need as much lead time as possible, especially for February. We take 50% down with a 21 day cancellation policy. We need 6 people or $1650 to make the trip go that day and tourcat holds up to 12 guests. We are open December 18th - April 7th .

Training & Instruction

We expect our guests to be able to handle backcountry terrain and snow. We hand our guests avalanche transceivers, give stern safety talks, and help people enjoy their day!

Packages & Pricing

Advanced reservations are required. Call on or after November 8, 2012 to reserve a spot. Call 719-486-2277, Monday through Friday 8:30 to 3:30 MDST. Reservations desk is open full time beginning mid November 2012. Young people under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and have the skill level to handle the backcountry terrain. A 50% deposit is required at the time reservations are made. Reservations may be made with major credit card, travelers checks or cash.
