About Pacific Crest Snowcats

Our terrain has been described repeatedly as the best expert snowcat terrain in all of North America. Our steep north facing terrain preserved the powder and increases it'sd quality throughout the days following a storm. Our very cold temeratures refacet our snow to create the best powder snow found in the Sierra. The coldest temperatures in the nation, routinely found in Truckee are a result of the cold air in our valleys draining into the truckee river corridor. Most of our slopes do not get touched by the sun until late March making the powder dryer day by day. Pacific Crest Snowcats is not effected by the weather as we are never on wind hold and storm skiing is second to none as you ride inside a heated snowcat to our wind protected ridgelines. When you experience the best the Sierra has to offer you will be hooked, and will return again and again, you have been warned. This is an all day adventure which begins with a safety breifing and instruction. You will be guided throughout your day stopping only for a fresh deli spread lunch until the day is at it's end and we motor home with a premium beer in hand. Pacific Crest Snowcats is a small and soulful operation built by ski bum entraprenuers and lifetime guides. You will be pleased with your choice to visit Pacific Crest Snowcats, many of our clients come several times each season, and some have sworn off the ski resorts completely. Please come and experinece Pacific Crest Snowcats, where you will never be asked to ski in the tracks of another. We have never brought a group down a run with tracks.

Guide Certifications & Experience
| Your guides are EMT or WFR certified as well as level two and three avalanche certified. You guides have been chosen for thier decision making ability in the backcountry as well as thier on slope experience as career ski patrollers and guides. Many of our guides woprk also at our helicopter ski operation in Valdez Alaska, Alaska Backcountry Adventures. If your guide is not fun to be with, they mus be guiding for someone else. |
Equipment Used
| You will explore deep into the sierra backcountry in heated and enclosed pison bully and bobardier snowcats. We offer ental skis and snowboards and supply avalanche beacons and instruction. |
Ski Areas Nearby
| We are located between The world Famous Squaw Valley and Sugar Bowl ski areas. We are also near all of the North Shore Tahoe Resorts, Alpine Meadows, Homewood, Mt. Rose, Northstar, Boreal, and all the rest. We are about an hour from the South Shore |
Booking Policy
| Booking in advance is nessesary as we sell out on many days. Booking early offers you our early booking discount saving you twenty five dollars per person and making us one of the most affordable snowcat ski operations. |
Training & Instruction
| Your group will recieve a sfety instructional briefing and avalanche rescue beacon training. Your guides will assess the hazards and explain the hazards to your group at each run. We also can arrange for a powder climinc for your group, this works best with private groups and often will include famous extreme skiers teaching the clinic. Please contact us for more information regarding these opportunities. |
Packages & Pricing
| Our daily trips in the backcountry are enhanced with backcountry lodging at the Lost Trail Lodge which resides at the base of our exclusive ski terrain. These packages must be booked early and can be booked as short as two days of cat skiing with a night in the lodge although most choose three days of skiing. Lodge guests benefit from more runs and more expert terrain as they are already in the deep woods where the best skiing is. Please contact us for details of this very exciting opportunity. Additionally you may decide to reserve a private snowcat. These reservations must be m,ade well in advance in order to secure availability. Even with a small group you will benefit from a private experience, the ultimate snowcat skiing experience. |
