About Steamboat Powder Cats

The Steamboat Powdercats permitted terrain is located on Buffalo Pass which is Colorado's snowiest location. Known for very light and dry, consistent powder conditions the terrain offers all ability levels a match to their skill. We have perfect gladed skiing for our intermediate skiers and riders, amazing aspen and spruce forests for advanced levels and steeper, big-mountain like runs for experts. All of the terrain is located below tree line which protects the snow from big winds and sun crusts. There is plenty of north facing slopes, east and west and south aspects to allow for a variety of options for our guides to put guests on fresh powder conditions even weeks after a storm. Beyond it all, the snow is the reason why Steamboat Powdercats has been so successful over the years. Light, dry and consistent powder is what a backcountry skier/boarder is looking for and we always have the fresh for our guests.

Since 1983, Steamboat Powdercats has operated in Colorado's snowiest location, Buffalo Pass. We have 3 passenger snowcats that carry a minimum of 5 guests and maximum of 12 guests per cat. Our ability level separation system allows for Level I-III type skiing to satisfy all intermediate, advanced and expert type levels. This is something that most other backcountry snowcat and heli operations cannot do. We take pride in matching our guests with others of like minded ability to maximize the on snow experience. Trips are all inclusive so we provide everything needed for a day in the backcountry. Each trip has 3 guides who will either lead the run, bring up the tail of the run or drive the snowcat. Beyond it all, we provide a complimentary image disk to every guest so that when they leave us they have a nice memento of images to remember the trip by.
