About Great Northern Powder Guides

Great Northern Powder Guides creates a unique skiing experience for our clients by having access to both north and south facing slopes of usable terrain. With Great Northern Powder Guides our guests have the opportunity to ski eight to ten powder runs daily with each averaging 800 vertical feet. Our guides lead guests to sunny morning runs on our south slopes and they finish out the day in the afternoon shade of our north facing runs. We currently utilize sixteen square miles of the Stillwater State Forest for our backcountry ski tours. The diversity of our terrain affords us with the limitless fresh powder that makes skiing with Great Northern Powder Guides the experience of a lifetime.

At Great Northern Powder Guides we create extraordinary experiences by combining unique terrain, experienced guides and first class accommodations. With these elements in play we guarantee an unforgettable cat skiing adventure in Northwest Montana. We are the only cat skiing company in Northwest Montana offering a great way to experience Montana’s finest powder. The partners want to share with their clients the uniqueness that Montana’s wilderness has to offer. We have access to 16 sq.miles of pristine Stillwater State Forest. We offer complimentary transportation from 4 convenient locations around Whitefish, Montana. We operate PistenBully 200 and 300 snowcats with a luxurious custom built cabin that seats 14 guests. All of the cat skiing guides that work with us are highly trained and experienced. The diversity of our terrain affords us with the limitless fresh powder that makes skiing with Great Northern Powder Guides the experience of a lifetime.

Guide Certifications & Experience

Lead guides for Great Northern Powder Guides have five years of extreme backcountry experience. All of our lead guides are National Ski Patrol (NSP) Avalanche Level 1/2 or the Canadian Avalanche Level 1 certified and all guides are outdoor emergency care technicians or wilderness care responders. The snowcat operators for Great Northern Powder Guides have at least 10 years of resort grooming experience and extensive road building knowledge. All of our operators are outdoor emergency care technicians or wilderness care responders. Our guest’s safety is one of the most important aspects to our cat skiing in Montana. We are committed to keeping all of our guides and operators updated with the latest safety procedures and courses. Each of our guests participates in an avalanche safety session each morning prior to entering the backcountry. With experienced guides and the use of our safety knowledge and equipment we can guarantee a safe and unforgettable cat skiing experience.

Equipment Used

At Great Northern Powder Guides we operate the PistenBully 200 and 300 model snowcats. We use a custom designed luxurious cabin that comfortably seats fourteen people. Since we personally customized our cabin, we had the opportunity to add special functions that create a unique and special ride for all of our guests.

Booking Policy

Great Northern Powder Guides requires 50% down for all reservations. We implement a 30 day cancellation policy for all of our packages, private cabin and yurt rentals. For single full day cat skiing we require a minimum of 7 days for cancellation.

Great Northern Powder Guides Cat Skiing Rates and Packages
A full day of cat skiing with breakfast and lunch included. $350. Whitefish Mountain Resort season pass holders will receive 20% off of their booking.

Private Party
The client books the whole snowcat cabin for a full day of cat skiing. The customized cabin holds up to fourteen people. This price includes breakfast, lunch and a full day of skiing for all the invited guests. $3,000

The Cat-Pass
With the Cat-Pass the client receives unlimited cat skiing for the full 2010-2011 season. Bookings with the Cat-Pass must be made at least three days in advance for guaranteed availability. Same day bookings are on a first come first serve basis. Cat-Pass only includes lunch. $3,000

Whitefish Lake Lodge Ski Package
3 & 5 Day Packages: These ski packages includes resort skiing at Whitefish Mountain Resort and cat skiing with us. All lodging is provided by the Whitefish Lake Lodge. $1,050-$1,900

Whitefish Mountain Ski Package
Resort Package: Rates and options vary. These are customized packages for our clients that would prefer their lodging to be provided by the Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort.

Great Northern Powder Guides Snowcat Cabins
Great Northern Powder Guides has made our specially customized cabins available for private purchase. We offer signature custom built snowcat cabins for the PistenBully 200, 300 and Edge models. $45,000

Local Lodging

Great Northern Powder Guides Backcountry Yurt: Our backcountry yurt is available for nightly rentals and can sleep eight people. Guests arrange their own transportation to and from the yurt $75/person or with snowcat transport $100/person. All bookings must be made at least three day in advance. Same day bookings are on a first come first serve basis.

Whitefish Lake Lodge offers an exquisite lodging experience on Whitefish Lake. Whitefish Mountain Resort offers guest a ski resort atmosphere.
